In case anyone wasn’t sure about what we’d be seeing at CES this year, let me tell you — Ultrabooks! They are a hot ticket item and we’ll be seeing plenty over the next week. Toshiba is already running strong with a few sleek 14″ laptops but we’ve spotted a brand new 14″ ultrabook and have plenty of pictures. With an already solid lineup with products like the Portege Z835 they have a strong offering but we wont turn away an ultra-sleek, ultra-powerful 14″ laptop — right?

Acer announces ‘world’s thinnest’ 13.3-inch Aspire S5 Ultrabook at CES 2012 (update: pictures)

Not surprisingly, Acer’s jumping on the quickly-expanding Ultrabook bandwagon here at CES 2012, with the Aspire S5 being the first out of the chute. It’s a 13.3-incher that’ll check it at under three pounds, offering up Instant On functionality, a magnesium-aluminum alloy cover (in Onyx Black), HDMI / USB 3.0 / Thunderbolt (!) ports and an SSD for good measure. We’re told that it’ll start shipping in Q2 of this year, but other details remain under wraps.

Toshiba NB510 makes pre-CES appearance, stands up for the netbook cause

CES 2012 is expected to be reigned by the generation of Ultrabooks , but the netbooks of the world refuse to quit without a fight — at least that’s what Toshiba hopes. According to Notebook Italia , the Japanese company is expected to introduce the NB510 mini-machine in Las Vegas next week, splitting the numerical difference between the NB500 and NB520 from a year ago. The rig’s said to be sporting Intel’s Cedar Trail Atom processors, accompanied by one gig of DDR3 RAM, a WSVGA (1,024 x 600) display and it’ll be running on Windows 7 Starter Edition

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Hybrid official: instant-on OS based on Android doubles battery life, arrives in Q2 for $1,599

Well, look at what we have here. Though it didn’t arrive as early as rumored, the ThinkPad X1 Hybrid running Android is, in fact, a real, whirring product. Lenovo just unveiled the laptop, which has a fanless “Instant Media Mode” promising to double the original X1′s (rather skimpy) battery life to as much as ten hours.
