Last month, we reported that Sony Corp. was in the midst of major changes to its management structure, as its Consumer Products & Services Group president, Kazuo Hirai, prepared to step up to replace current Sony CEO and president Howard Stringer in both roles. The company has now announced further management and organizational changes, including some that touch on its digital imaging business, currently conducted by the Personal Imaging & Sound Business Group, part of the larger CPSG.

We talked about many things, much of which is covered in a separate interview digest, but it was Samsung‘s strategy to save the pocket camera that we found interesting enough to warrant its own article.

In a move similar to the ones seen at fellow struggling Japanese electronics giants Sony and Panasonic , Sharp has announced a change at the top, swapping out president Mikio Katayama (kicked upstairs to the position of Director, Chairman) for current executive officer Takashi Okuda. The move will go into effect April 1st, giving him the keys after a fiscal year 2012 to forget comes to an end. According to his biography he’s been with the company since 1978, although your guess is as good as ours about what he can do to turn around the company’s fortunes — although getting that 8K Super Hi-Vision LCD into production ASAP would be a great start.

President Obama may have been on Google+ since November, but the administration is now stepping up its presence on the social network even further in anticipation of next week’s State of the Union address and the forthcoming presidential campaign. It now has an official White House Google+ page, where it plans to post the usual news, photos and videos, and also host regular Hangout video chats.

Nikkei is reporting that Sony will be promoting current Executive Deputy President Kazuo “Kaz” Hirai to president as soon as April, while Howard Stringer is expected to remain chairman and CEO of the company. As you may recall, Sony started its search for a new president as far back as November 2010, and with Kaz’s two promotions last year (to Executive Deputy President in April and to Sony Computer Entertainment Chairman in September ), it isn’t surprising that he’s the chosen one to pick up some of Sir Howard’s work.

Rugged on the outside with the potential for the same excellent photo quality as the K-01 mirrorless ILC, claimed faster autofocus performance than the already fast K-5, and a 100 percent coverage viewfinder that you usually only see in more expensive models all add up to a possibly great start to the Pentax-Ricoh era. Though it’s not “durable” in the same sense as bodies like the Nikon D4 or Canon EOS-1D X , with parts designed to withstand heavy photographic abuse, the K-30 offers weather-and-dust resistance, with claims of usability down to 14 degrees (most cameras only guarantee down to 32 degrees); that said, Pentax makes no claims about battery life at those temperatures.
House After eight seasons, the run of Gregory House MD comes to an end on Fox tonight with a double episode.
