When you think about it, there’s no reason that biometric recognition can’t provide security on tablets — well, aside from the need for a sensor thin enough to fit on a slate.

There are all sorts of ways to go green these days, from driving an EV to installing super efficient light bulbs , and now Logitech’s given us an environmentally friendly way to type tactilely on a tablet. It’s a new iPad and iPad 2-friendly case called the Solar Keyboard Folio, which packs a Bluetooth keyboard powered by ambient light using the same solar cell tech found on the firm’s computer keyboards . Once topped up with photons, Logitech claims its battery will keep you typing for over 1,000 hours even in complete darkness
Logitech announced its Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for the new iPad and iPad 2 a couple of weeks ago, and today we got our grubby mitts on the thing. In case you forgot, it attaches to your Apple tablet like a Smart Cover when not in use, but perhaps you didn’t know that those magnets secure the slate in stand mode as well. And secure is the operative word, once you slot your slate in, it takes a concerted effort to dislodge it — plus, there’s virtually no shaking of the screen while typing away on the keyboard

If you’ve been looking for a reason to replace your aging device with something a tad more contemporary, your local pawnshop GameStop is happy to oblige.
This one is still very much unconfirmed, but a “trusted source” recently provided Neowin.net with the image you see above, which purports to be a mockup of a forthcoming business-minded tablet from HP dubbed the Slate 8. That’s obviously a Windows 8 tablet and, if the details are to be believed, you can expect a 10.1-inch display, eight to ten hours of battery life, optional pen-based input, a docking station of some sort, an outdoor viewing option and a number of business-friendly security measures — all in a package that’s 9.2mm thick about 1.5 pounds. Adding some weight to leak is ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, who hasn’t been able to confirm it outright, but says that after a bit of investigation she is “inclined to believe this is a real mock-up and is part of HP’s line up of business desktops and laptops it will be touting this year.” Business-minded HP ‘Slate 8′ tablet surfaces in leaked image originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 27 Apr 2012 12:38:00 EDT
We’ve seen some pretty clear indications that the Kindle Fire was rapidly gaining market share among Android tablets, and ComScore is now out with a new report that indicates it recently crossed a big milestone.
