  • Okoro OMS-CX100 - Monster HTPC

    November 6th, 2007 at 9:02:46 PM

It has become increasingly popular to place a computer in one’s living room. No, I’m not talking about the times when you sit on the couch with your laptop, but home theater PCs (HTPC) that give you all of the functionality of a TiVo, and then some. These new CX series HTPCs from Okoro Media Systems come packed with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6650, up to 4GB of RAM (2GB standard), up to 4TB (320GB standard) an Nvida 8500 GT with HDCP output and an ATI Digital Cable Tuner. It’s a little strange to see someone actually build a machine that uses an Nvidia card and an ATI tuner, but I guess that shows how ATI still needs to step up their game in the GPU realm.

  • MiniView KVM Switch for Sharing Monitors

    October 8th, 2007 at 10:40:03 AM

Iogear’s MiniView Micro DVI PS/2 KVM Switch is not exactly an exciting gadget but it’s one of the best KVM switches. A KVM switch is the most efficient way of sharing peripherals between two computers. In other words, let’s say you have two computers which and you would like to share the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, microphone and speakers on for use with both computers. A KVM can switch makes that happen. Thus a KVM switch is a practical tool to have in your dweeb arsenal - it’s both a space saver and a money saver. The new MiniView KVM switch is extra special, because it supports DVI as opposed to VGA like most other KVM switches, and it’s not a bulky box - those are two aspects that are hard to find. The price isn’t outrageous either at $159 for what you get.

  • Iluv's New Portable Video MP3 & DVD Player with Touch Sensitive Controls

    October 3rd, 2007 at 10:41:05 PM

Iluv’s previous Portable Multimedia Tablet-Style DVD Player, the z1055BLK, didn’t do so well in the market place. It was a good idea, but the price and the not-so-great screen kept buyers away. Now they have a new upcoming New Portable Video MP3 & DVD Player in the works and it does look pretty promising. The player sports a 8.4″ wide-screen TFT LCD, it has a transparent protective screen, as well as neat light-emitting touch sensitive function keypad controls. The package comes with a carrying pouch, car and adapter, AV cable for outputting video to a TV and a remote control. Overall, this ipod accessory looks pretty slick and useful, but disappointedly it isn’t compatible with the iPod Touch, iPod Classic 80GB, iPod Classic 160GB, or new iPod video Nano. Will it at least work with the iPhone? We can only hope. The Portable Video MP3 & DVD Player is available for preorder at Neiman Marcus for $275 with an expected ship date of October 15th.

  • Coby's TF-DVD1591 with Slot Loading DVD Player

    September 6th, 2007 at 11:49:27 PM

Coby has got a new 15″ TFT LCD monitor that also doubles as a TV. As a computer monitor, it sports a kind of sad 1024 x 768 resolution, but the built-in TV tuner sweetens it. But what really makes the Coby’s TF-DVD1591 slick is the slot loading DVD player on its side. Other specs include a 500:1 contrast ratio and built-in speakers. You can grab the TF-DVD1591 for just $293

  • New digital photo frame shipping from Axiom

    June 14th, 2007 at 8:41:19 PM

I’ve always thought that digital photo frames were a bit silly. I’m all for the digital lifestyle and such, but something about looking at a picture frame that’s juts displaying an image on a screen bothers me. Though I’ll admit, I’m warming up to them.

This new one from Axion is a 7-inch widescreen frame with a 480 x 234 resolution. It features a brightness control for the best possible picture no matter what the lighting conditions. You can store up to 2GB on a memory card, it supports most major formats.

  • Designer DVD player a Zox

    February 1st, 2007 at 12:31:53 PM

Kindly don't mix up the Xbox 360 with the Zox DVD player as both devices come with interchangeable faceplates. Looks like even DVD players are jumping onto the accessory market in order to gain a competitive edge. I'm not too sure how many people want to change the outfit of their DVD players within a year as it would be pretty hard matching it to your living room decor which is considerably more expensive to replace. The Zox DVD player will be released in Japan later this week for a lowly $57.50.

  • BumbleBee and ProjectoWrite Projectors from CES 2007

    January 9th, 2007 at 2:57:16 AM

The Bumblebee and the ProjectoWrite are two very nifty projectors from Boxlight. The Bumblebee is incredibly small, perhaps the smallest of its kind on the market, measuring just 4.5 inches wide and weighing less than 1lb.The ProjectoWrite, on the other hand, allows for an interactive presentation by using a unique laser-pointer/remote that lets you write and/or type on screen in real-time. The Bumblebee will retail for $899 and the ProjectoWrite will be on the market for $2500.
